School District Data
How Does Your School Compare?
School data varies significantly across the Commonwealth. View this document to find out a few things about your school district, including the spending level per pupil, property tax rate, percentage of low-income students, number of Limited English Proficiency students, percentage of students scoring below proficient on the state standardized test, and legislative representatives.
A few words of caution accompany this data. The facts here represent just a few of the many facts and figures used to evaluate school systems. Good Schools Pennsylvania does not intend for this data, alone, to be used to draw conclusions about school systems’ performance, but as a place to begin asking questions.
For instance, people often cite schools with high levels of spending and very low performance as proof that money does not matter. However, after closer examination of revenue and expenditures it may become apparent that significant amounts of money received by the district are required for designated programs – Title 1 programs, IDEA grants, Free and Reduced Lunch Programs, Transportation, etcetera – the money of such programs does not go into the actual instructional costs of a student, but are included in the expenditure data, which may falsely inflate the current expenditures per pupil.
This data should be considered with other academic, financial, and demographic indicators, as well as background research on the situation of any given district.
